11th Sindh Amateur Golf Championship

KARACHI: Ali Hai gained a decisive six-stroke lead with another superb second round on the penultimate day of the 11th Sindh Amateur Golf Championship at Karachi Golf Club here on Saturday. Experienced Ali Hai, who played par-72 round on the opening day, improved by playing one-under-par 71 round to lead the pack in the field. Former national champion Ali Hai displayed consistent show at his favorite course, fairways and greens to lead with a total of 143. Hamza Amin was second with six stroke behind. After playing 74 on day one, Hamza played three-over-par round 75 in the second to end with an aggregate of 149. Zuhair Asif played a fine round of two-over-par 74 and defending champion Waseem Rana carded 3-over-par 75 and were at third spot with 152. Promising Saim Shazli won the junior event with total of 159 after carding the rounds of 78 and 81. Abdu Rehman Badar finished runner-up. Among the seniors, Ayaz Pir and Umer Bangash were tied for the top spot with score of 76 after day one in the 36-hole contest. Asad IA Khan was second by carding score of 79 while Murtuaz Qasim, Zafar Mahmood and pervez were at third position with the identical scores of 81. National champion Tahira Nazir was on top in the women’s event with opening round of 82 and six strokes behind her was Japanese diplomat Yutaka Are with 88. Durdana Somroo was third with 94. Nine women are taking part in the competition.
