A South African radio station was rapped over the knuckles Thursday after a sports presenter told newly wed listeners to let cricket star Jacques Kallis sleep with their wives.
The remark came after Kallis scored twin centuries to put South Africa on top of India on the fourth day of a series-deciding third and final Test on January 5 during India's South African tour.
Praising Kallis' performance, sport presenter Lunga Singama said on Cape Town's Heart 104.9 FM, "If tonight you're about to consummate your marriage on your honeymoon and Jacques Kallis wants first dibs, you should stand aside and let him have your wife."
A listener complained to the Broadcasting Complaints Commission of South Africa that the remark was sexually degrading -- a charge the commission upheld.
"It was found that this statement amounted to the strengthening of an attitude of male entitlement: that women were there for the taking, as it were. The statement was found to be seriously degrading to women," it said in its ruling.
The radio station was reprimanded but was not forced to pay a fine.
Kallis, 35, who plays for Indian Premier League side Kolkata Knight Riders, was the top run scorer of the Proteas' Test series against India, scoring 498 runs, including three centuries.
