Ball State defeats CMU in baseball

MUNCIE, Ind. -- Ball State jumped out to a big early lead and cruised to an 8-1 victory over visiting Central Michigan in Mid-American Conference baseball on Sunday.
The Cardinals (12-25 overall, 8-6 MAC) scored once in the second inning, five times in the fourth, and twice in the fifth to open up an 8-0 lead.
Jake Sabol (3-3) took the loss for the Chippewas, giving up six runs on 10 hits in 3 1/3 innings, while Ball State's Morgan Coombs (4-3) earned the win, going eight innings and allowing only one run on five hits.
The bottom four hitters in the Cardinals' lineup went 11-for-19 with six runs batted in and six runs scored, led by Tim Issler's 5-for-5 and three runs scored.
CMU managed only five hits altogether, including a triple by Matt Faiman.
The Chippewas (20-20, 9-6) host Bowling Green on Tuesday in a makeup game.
